The Coal Gasification Mission aims to gasify 100 million tonsof coal by 2030, aligning with India’s vision of achieving energy independence by 2027. This initiative supports the goal of reducing
reliance on imports and conserving foreign exchange, especially in the oil, gas, fertilizer, and petrochemical sectors. The gasification projects will lead to diversified use of coal, partial
import substitution for oil and gas, and cleaner utilization of India’s abundant coal reserves. The government has also approved investment by Coal India Limited in joint ventures with
BHEL and GAIL for undertaking coal gasification projects, demonstrating the financial and technicalviability of gasification projects and stimulating markets for downstream products
