Traditional biomass gasification systems often use a wet gas purification process, which relies on scrubbers or spray towers that use large quantities of water to wash producer gas and remove particulates, tar, and other impurities while simultaneously cooling the gas.
However, wet gas purification systems come with several environmental challenges. They consume significant amounts of water and can lead to secondary water pollution due to direct contact with contaminated gas. When recirculation is used, tar and particulate concentrations in the water can continuously increase. Additionally, ponds and cooling towers may release vapors containing PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) and ammonia. These systems also generate large volumes of wastewater that require treatment and limit opportunities for heat recovery.

Dry Type Gas Purification: Enabling Better Installation Opportunities
The Dry Type Gas Purification System operates without any direct contact between water and producer gas, eliminating the generation of contaminated wash water. This design removes issues such as foul odors, as there are no water ponds or evaporation-based cooling systems involved, while also significantly reducing water consumption required for gas cooling.
In addition, the system produces no sludge, thereby removing the need for complex sludge handling and disposal processes. One of its key advantages is efficient heat recovery from hot gas, which can be utilized for drying applications, heating processes, or converted into electricity through a thermal oil heat exchanger and ORC system, enabling additional energy generation.
Producer Gas (Syngas) Quality & Benefits of Dry Type Gas Purification System
The Dry Type Gas Purification System ensures consistent and stable operation, enabling smooth functioning of gas engines without fluctuations in power output.
The system delivers high-quality producer gas with the following performance parameters:
- Average calorific value (CV): >1100–1200 kcal/Nm³
- Tar content after cleaning: <5–10 mg/Nm³
- Particulate content after filtration: <5–10 mg/Nm³
Both tar and particulates are removed in dry form using Omnignx’s dry-type ESP system, making handling and disposal significantly easier. Ammonia is also effectively removed through dissolution in condensate, requiring only minimal wastewater treatment. In addition, valuable ammonium salts can be recovered from the condensate and utilized as fertilizer.
The Gas Temperature Control Sub-system also generates hot air during gas cooling, which can be reused for biomass drying or recirculated to the gasifier to improve overall system efficiency.
